WE'VE GROWN .... AND ARE NOW KNOWN AS....

2010
14TH ANNUAL JURIED SHOW
The PAINT THE HURON SHORES art competition, exhibition and
sale was created in
1996 by Grand Bend, Ontario artist Barry Richman.
A graduate of H.B. Beal and Doon School of Fine Arts, Barry is
an accomplished draftsman and painter in oils and pastels. Landscapes,
rivers, lakes and shoreline themes figure prominently in his work.
Barry believes that first impressions in nature are
everything. He understands the role an artist's perception and knowledge
of colour and light can play in vividly recalling a scene, where often a camera
cannot. Painting is his way of saying, "You should have seen what I
saw!"
Frustrated and disappointed by the "fine art
establishment's" lack of appreciation and acceptance of contemporary
Canadian representational art and the absence of first class venues (such as
public galleries) to display and sell traditional realism, he decided to start
his own exhibition and competition. He patterned it after the very
successful "Arts for the Parks" competition in the U.S.A. which has
grown over the last 10 years to where it now awards over $90,000 in prizes
annually and draws entries from artists worldwide.
The Paint Ontario program is designed to celebrate
the work of representational artists and also to enhance and increase
awareness of the beauty of the Huron Shores tourist region from Sarnia to
Tobermory. This annual competition presents to the public the spirit and
beauty of this magnificent area as portrayed by some of our finest artists, with
the work professionally displayed in the Lambton Heritage Museum's outstanding
Lambton Gallery just south of Grand Bend across from Pinery Provincial Park.
